Complex rhythms, mathematical precision and philosophical themes sit at the heart of Lateralus, Tool's third studio album. Originally released on 15 May 2001 through Volcano Entertainment, it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and features the Grammy Award-winning single Schism. Its intricate time signatures and experimental approach make it a record to settle into rather than skim past.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1990, Tool developed from the heavy metal of Undertow (1993) through the alternative metal of Ænima (1996). Lateralus continued their exploration of music, visual art and personal evolution, a creative thread that carried into 10,000 Days (2006) and Fear Inoculum (2019). This edition presents the album across two red-vinyl LPs.
Unofficial pressing: this is not an authorised Volcano Entertainment release. The edition details below refer specifically to this red-vinyl version, not the album's original 2001 release.
