Few debut albums arrive fully formed and immediately beloved. The self-titled record from The Presidents of the United States of America is one of them. Released in 1995, it became one of the defining alt-rock records of the decade: playful, strange, melodically irresistible, and completely unlike anything else on the radio.

Chris Ballew, Dave Dederer, and Jason Finn built their sound around modified instruments, a "basitar" and a "guitbass", stripping the music back to something deceptively simple and endlessly fun. "Lump", "Peaches", "Kitty", and "Boll Weevil" remain some of the most joyfully odd songs to ever go platinum.

This 2020 pressing on the band's own PUSACORP label marks 25 years of one of the 90s' most beloved records, available on vinyl for a new generation of listeners and long-time fans alike.
