1985. Pantera's third album on their own Metal Magic Records, and the moment the early band's sound began to darken in earnest. Terry Glaze on vocals, Rex Brown - then going by Rex Rocker on bass, Dimebag and Vinnie Paul driving the whole thing forward. I Am the Night is heavier, more atmospheric, and more focused than anything that came before it. The title track alone is a genuine early metal standout.

This is the last Pantera album before the chain of events that would bring Phil Anselmo into the fold and transform the band entirely. As a document of where Pantera were before they became Pantera, it's irreplaceable.

The 2024 official reissue is pressed on white vinyl as part of the same early catalogue programme as Projects in the Jungle.
