Lowrider - Ode To Io (2017 Desertfest Deluxe 2LP)

Heavy fuzz, unhurried grooves and riffs built for wide-open space. Lowrider helped carry desert rock beyond its Californian roots, bringing a Swedish voice to the sound with thick guitar tones, rolling rhythms and a strong melodic instinct. Originally released in 2000, their debut Ode To Io captures that early spirit, with the weight of the riffs matched by a sense of space.

Recorded and produced by the band at KM Studios in Karlskoga, Sweden, in November 1999, the album belongs to the same early chapter as their split release with Nebula. Lowrider would leave almost twenty years between this debut and its follow-up, Refractions, released in 2020, giving Ode To Io a long life as the defining introduction to the band.

This 2017 deluxe edition expands the album with six additional tracks drawn from the band's early recordings, including material from the Nebula/Lowrider split and the I Am Vengeance soundtrack. The recordings were remastered by Thomas Eberger at Stockholm Mastering in March 2017. This first deluxe pressing was sold exclusively at Desertfest Berlin and Desertfest London, in a limited edition of 300 copies.
