Korn - Life Is Peachy (30th Anniversary Hardwood Brown LP)

Korn's second album doesn't offer much breathing room. Life Is Peachy takes the raw nerve of their 1994 debut and twists it into something stranger, folding hip-hop rhythms, lurching grooves and warped humour into the band's heavy-metal framework. The fractured vocal outburst of Twist sets the tone, while Good God and A.D.I.D.A.S. give all that agitation an immediate, lasting hook.

Originally released in 1996 and produced again by Ross Robinson, the album finds the Bakersfield band testing how far their sound can stretch. Deftones' Chino Moreno joins the Ice Cube cover Wicked, a brief detour through War's Lowrider adds another unexpected turn, and Porno Creep and Mr. Rogers keep the mood unsettling. Three decades later, it remains a confrontational, groove-driven record with little interest in making itself comfortable. This 30th-anniversary Sony Legacy US edition comes on 'Hardwood' brown vinyl.
