Alice In Chains - MTV Unplugged (2026 Reissue Black Vinyl 2LP)

Less distortion, nowhere to hide. On MTV Unplugged, Alice In Chains strip their songs back to acoustic wood, space and the unmistakable tension between Layne Staley’s voice and Jerry Cantrell’s harmonies. Returning to the stage after more than two years away, the Seattle band delivered a performance whose power comes not from volume, but from how much remains when the amplifiers are turned down.

Recorded at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York in 1996, the set moves from the exposed opening of “Nutshell” through haunting versions of “Down In A Hole”, “Rooster” and “Would?”. “Frogs” stretches into a brooding centre of gravity, while “Over Now” and closing song “Killer Is Me” leave room for warmth as well as unease. Staley and Cantrell’s vocal interplay holds everything together, revealing the melodic detail beneath the band’s familiar weight. This 2026 reissue presents the thirteen-track live album across two black vinyl LPs.
