Alice In Chains - Black Gives Way To Blue (2024 Black Widow 2LP)

A new chapter shaped by loss, continuity and the weight of a long-awaited return. Originally released on 29 September 2009 through Virgin and EMI Records, Black Gives Way To Blue was Alice In Chains' fourth studio album and their first in nearly fourteen years, following their 1995 self-titled record. It was also their first album without founding lead vocalist Layne Staley, who died in 2002, introducing William DuVall as co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist alongside founding member Jerry Cantrell.

Heavy, brooding riffs sit alongside moments of restraint, from the insistent pull of Check My Brain to the quieter reflection of Your Decision. This 2024 limited-edition US reissue presents the album on Black Widow vinyl, clear with red and black smoke, in a gatefold sleeve. Originally offered as a webstore exclusive, the two-LP set includes Elton John's guest piano and Lisa Coleman's vibraphone on the closing title track, with strings by Stevie Blacke on Your Decision and Private Hell.
